In a composite sprocket or gear-wheel, the teeth are formed by a plastics overlay 28 moulded over tooth root portions 25 of a tooth root flange ribbon 24 secured to, or integrally formed on, a peripheral flange edge 23 of a stamped plate body 22, the plastics overlay 28 extending over the whole periphery 23 and tooth roots 25 and extending inwardly to the flat surface of the plate body 22 (Fig. 3, not shown). As shown, the tooth ribbon 24 is a corrugated strip welded at (26, 27), (Fig. 3, not shown) to the flange 23 centrally disposed on the plate body 22. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the corrugated ribbon (34) is frictionally retained by open ended clips (37) on an offset flange (33) integral with the body (32). In Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the corrugated ribbon (44) is attached by encircling retainer clips (47) to a centrally positioned flange (43) of the body (42) which is notched at (47a) around its periphery to receive the retainer clips (47) inserted therethrough. In Figs. 8 to 10 (not shown), the corrugated tooth ribbon (54) is strengthened by ribs (56) integrally formed each side therewith. In Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), the peripheral flange edge (63) of the plate body (62) is formed with axially tapered indentations (63a), the corrugated tooth ribbon (64) being positioned on the flange (63) with the tapered indentations (63a) adjacent the radially outwardly extending portions (65) of the ribbon (64) whereby the plastics overlay (68) fills the intervening spaces to key the assembly. Embossments (66) in the face of the portions (65) aid in the retention of the plastics rim: In Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown), gear type tooth roots (75) are integrally formed on the ribbon (74) having chamfers (80) each side in which the plastics overlay (78) is formed during moulding. In Figs. 15 and 16 (not shown), the plate body (82) is integrally formed with radially extending peripheral teeth (87) which are deformed into a flange ribbon having axially spread tooth roots (84) on a tapered peripheral flange edge (83). |
