摘要 In a process for producing ehtylene oxide by the partial oxidation of ethylene by means of gaseous oxygen in the presence of a silver catalyst the process is carried out in three reaction zones in series, with purging from and recycling to each, each zone having a concentration of oxygen of 1-10% by volume, a concentration of carbon dioxide not in excess of 10% by volume, a concentration of halogenated inhibitor of 0.0001-100 p.p.m. by weight, a concentration of methane and/or ethane of 0.001 to 40% by volume, a reactor temperature of 150-400 DEG C., a reactor pressure of 50-650 p.s.i.g., a flow rate of 50-1500 standard cu. ft./ hr. per zone with an average diameter of the zone 0.5-2.0 inches and the zone length of 5-40 ft., the conditions being controlled to provide in the first zone a concentration of ethylene of 7-20% by volume, a selectivity of 65-75% and a conversion of 10-30%, in the second zone a concentration of ethylene of 2-5% by volume, a selectivity of 60-70% and a conversion of 50-25% and in the third zone a concentration of ethylene of 0.5 to 3% by volume, a selectivity of 60-65% and a conversion of 90-50%, and an ethylene oxide concentration in the exit gas of 0.3-5.0% by volume.
