Ceramic objects of high white content are obtained by immersing pre-fired porous objects wholly or partly in a solution of one or more white zirconium compounds, and drying and firing them. The immersion may be effected under vacuum and repeated until saturation is reached. Suitable impregnating solutions are aqueous zirconium tetrachloride and/or acetate. The treated objects may be glazed or decorated as required.
