1284746 Sewing fastener tapes WILLIAM PRYM-WERKE K-G 22 Oct 1969 [31 Oct 1968] 51815/69 Heading D1G [Also in Division E2] To fasten two halves 2, 3 of a continuous, closed sliding clasp fastener tape to the sides of an opening 12 in an article 13 a length 11 of the tape is stitched (6, 7) to the article, the said length is severed from the succeeding length 10, the two halves of the succeeding length 10 being connected (by a connector 16) and a gap 14 not containing any fastener links 8, 9, is punched in the lines of coupling links. In one embodiment a twin needle sewing machine has a tape guide 20 disposed before the needles 22 and presser foot 23. Behind the needles a gap punching tool 29, tape severing tool 27 and a connector fitting plunger 31 is operated pneumatically as a unit by a single piston and cylinder device 36. End connectors, shown as staples 39 are delivered from a magazine by a vibratory rail to the plunger 31. The connecting means 16 may, alternatively, be of thermoplastics material welded to the tape. In another embodiment, (Fig. 8 not shown) the gap punching tool (29<SP>1</SP>) is disposed before the sewing position and cuts a gap in the tape at a distance from the initial length which is a multiple of the fastener length required. |
