Sugar recovery from bagasse

Sugar recovery from bagasse conveyed steadily through a diffusion trough for spraying with extraction fluid from below in counterflow. By dividing the trough into two zones the crude bagasse can be heated by the spray fluid in the first thickened or compacted at the end of this first zone. The bagasse flow is retarded during the juice removal operation as it passes from the entry zone to the diffusion zone proper. This prevents mixing of extraction fluid and circulating juice also dispenses with a separate macerating stage.
