1291425 Spinning processes TURBO MACHINE CO 14 May 1970 [23 June 1969] 23360/70 Heading D1F [Also in Division B8] A continuous band of material 26, e.g. of filamentary tow which is to be fed to a stapler, passes over fixed guide bars 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, which serve to tension the band, and also over a control bar 52 supported by yoke 60 so arranged that the bar 52 can pivot about a point remote from its axis and intermediate its ends. An edge sensor 42 detects transverse deviations in the movement of the band from a desired path and supplies input signals to a pneumatic cylinder 80 which operates to tilt the bar 52 so as to correct any such deviations. The sensor comprises a spring-biased bar which co-operates with valves connected in the pneuamtic supply lines to the cylinder 80 (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). Additional sensors may be used to perform other functions, such as stopping the feed if the band becomes too wide. |
