Polymerisation is of alpha-olefins CH2=CHR (where R is 1-8C alkyl, opt. substd. by alkyl or aryl) in suspension or in the gas phase, at 20 to 120 degrees C., under pressures below 50 ats., opt. using H as mol. wt. regulator, with mixed catalyst, comprising cycloheptatriene- (1, 3, 5) or substd. derivatives thereof (component A); a halogen-contng. heavy metal cpd. of sub-Groups IV-VI, present in sub-maximum valency (component B); and a halogen-free Group I-III metal org. cpd. (component C). Components A and C are heated, in presence of an inert dispersing agent, prior to polymerisation, to 61-130 degrees C. for 0.5 to 20 hrs. Component C is pref. AlEt3. Component B is pref. a Cl-contng. Ti(III) cpd. The alpha-olefin is pref. propylene. The molar ratio C : A to 0.5 : 1 to 15 : 1.
