1,271,238. Flocking. DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd. 30 July, 1969 [30 July, 1968], No. 36323/ 68. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions B5, B6 and D1] A surface covering material comprising a base layer 1 and a pile of thermoplastic flock fibres 2 e.g. nylon has wear-resistant areas 3 produced by means of a heated shoe-plate 5 which causes the fibres to fuse together. One or more shoe plates 5 are brought in and out of pressured contact with the pile by means of an air operated piston and cylinder arrangement and comprise an upper attachment plate 14, an insulating block 15 incorporating an I.R. heater 17, a steel plate 16 and aluminium plate 13 secured together. A sheet of thermoplastic material 20 e.g. nylon felt may be laid on the pile and fused therewith. A layer of non-stick heat resistant material e.g. silicone-surfaced glass cloth 21 or an aluminium plate having a ribbed surface coated with silicone release fluid may be inserted between the shoe plate and the area to be treated to prevent adhesion. Cooling of the material may be accelerated by application of a cooled shoe plate after which additional thermoplastic flock fibres or powder may be sprinkled on the treated area and the process repeated. This additional material may be of a different colour to produce a patterned effect.
|
