1,204,895. Preparation of omega-amino-acids. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 19 Oct., 1967, No. 47691/67. Heading C2C. Omega-amino-acids are prepared by hydrogenating a cyanoacid reactant of general formula NC(CH 2 ) n C(R 1 R 2 )CO 2 NH 4 , where n is 0 or an integer 1-9, R 1 and R 2 are each H or together are =NOH, in an aqueous solution at 0-200‹ C. with a hydrogen pressure of 1-150 atmospheres, in the presence of at least 0.01 grams of ruthenium catalyst per mole of cyanoacid. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of ammonia or ammonium hydroxide. Preferably a proportion of at least 2 moles of H 2 per mole of the cyanoacid reactant is used at 50-150‹ C. and an H 2 -pressure of 35-125 atmospheres. The examples relate to the reduction of the ammonium salt of 6-cyanohexanoic acid to 7-aminoheptanoic acid using Ru/C, Ru/alumina or RuO 2 as catalyst. |
