A unified schlieren-interference apparatus comprising along the optical axis a condenser lens, an element provided with a slit, a collimator, a cell, an optical projection system containing a cylindrical lens and a recording means. According to the invention, the element is placed in the focal plane of the collimator illuminating the cell and is provided with an equally spaced optical grid consisting of transparent and non-transparent strips and at least one slit perpendicular thereto. The element comprising the optical grid and at least one slit is placed in the apparatus so that both the schlieren recording and the interference recording appear on the same image simultaneously, without the necessity of any re-adjustment in the apparatus. The simultaneous appearance of both images are extremely adavantageous in the evaluation of both equilibrium and velocity measurements. |
