Ordinary and mineral lead sulphides and mineral concentrates containing lead sulphide are treated to extract lead metal. The lead sulphide is dissolved in an aqueous solution of fluorosilicic acid H2SiF3, which also contains an oxidising agent. A gas carrying oxygen is caused to bubble through, holding the mixture substantially at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature below or equal to the boiling point of the acidified aqueous solution and above approximately 50 degree C. The lead which passes into solution is recovered by any normal method, mainly by electrolysis, recycling the lead-free solution for the further treatment of lead sulphide. Application: selective extraction of lead in the presence of precious metals and copper and iron, which do not dissolve under the conditions of the process.
|
