When pigments donating bivalent or polyvalent metal ions and auxiliaries are introduced into coating compositions consisting to the extent of at least half of silicate pigments, binders and auxiliaries, a sharp rise in viscosity occurs which, according to the invention, can be greatly reduced or completely avoided by using auxiliaries which, in addition to conventional organic and/or inorganic dispersants such as polyacrylate derivatives, also contain ammonia, ammonium salts, amines containing 2-8 carbon atoms, amino alcohols, polyamines, condensation products thereof with ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide, potassium hydroxide and/or potassium salts. |
