PURPOSE:To provide ultrafiltration performance and to change the filtration characteristic in sensitive response to external stimulation by introducing a radical polymerization initiator group onto the surface of a porous membrane of a polymeric material having 0.01-10mum pore diameter, and then graft- polymerizing a radical-polymerizable monomer. CONSTITUTION:A porous membrane having 0.01-10mum pore diameter is produced with a polymeric material capable of forming a radical-polymerizable active species on the principal chain or the side chain by glow discharge, corona discharge, or gamma-ray irradiation. The plasma discharge, corona discharge treatment, or gamma-ray irradiation are conducted, the porous material is brought into contact with the vapor of 1 or >=2 kinds of radical-polymerizable monomers or the soln. of the monomers, and graft polymerization is carried out. A monomer appropriate for the desired use is selected as the radical-polymerizable monomer, ultrafiltration performance is provided to the porous membrane, and the filtration characteristic can be greatly changed in sensitive response to external stimulation. |
