In an image reproduction device which consists of a LCD screen which can be activated by an image signal source, and a light source illuminating the LCD screen, an adaptation to different image signal sources is to be effected. In this connection, optimum reproduction quality with respect to image size, resolution, contrast, uniformity and freedom from flicker is to be achieved in each case. According to the invention, frame lines of the LCD screen are correlated with frame lines of the image signal source in dependence on the line number of the image signal source and/or the fine structure of the frame offered by the image signal source.
