In an apparatus for suspending files or the like, use is made of suspension elements (11) with a supporting tongue (10) and a shoulder (12) which connect the spine fold (7) of the file to a clamping strip (14) which has a central web (15) and two downward-pointing clamping legs (16, 19) adjoining the upper edge thereof. The central web forms, together with the front clamping leg (16), a holder (18) for a viewing strip, and also forms together with the rear clamping leg (19) a clamping gap (20) for the spine fold (7). Projections (24), (25) prevent tilting movements between the spine fold (7) and suspension elements (11). <IMAGE>
