MANUFACTURE OF ELECTRODE PLATE FOR LEAD-ACID BATTERY

PURPOSE:To heighten formation charging efficiency and to increase life performance by preparing paste by kneading lead powder containing lead oxide such as red lead oxide with an alkaline solution, then by kneading again them with sulfuric acid. CONSTITUTION:An alkaline solution is used in kneading instead of water which is usually used. Part of lead monoxide contained in lead powder containing lead oxide such as red lead oxide is dissolved in the alkaline solution while paste is kneaded. Sulfuric acid is added to the paste and kneading is continued. The paste obtained is aged and dried. Dissolved lead monoxide deposits on particles of red lead oxide and tribasic lead sulfate monohydrous during aging and drying. Network structure is formed between particles and binding action between active material particles is increased. Softening and coming off of the active material in the early stage are prevented, formation charging efficiency is heightened, and life performance is increased.
