A rapid process for the formation of heterocyclic aromatic polymers is disclosed. The process employs contacting one or more appropriate multifunctional aromatic monomers, such as a diaminobenzenediol, a terephthaloyl halide and/or an aminohydroxybenzoic acid, with a sulfonic acid, as the solvent, and a dehydrating agent. Such heterocyclic aromatic polymer products exhibit excellent tensile strength and thermal stability and are useful for aerospace and other applications requiring rigid and environmentally stable materials. |
