PURPOSE:To provide a shift lever inhibiting mechanism capable of preventing the shift lever from erroneous operation by keeping the shift lever from entering an R position in forward traveling. CONSTITUTION:A shift lever 11 occupies shift position having a N(neutral) range between a R(reverse) range and D(drive) range. When a shift position sensor detects that the shift lever 11 is in the N range and a vehicle speed sensor detects that the vehicle speed exceeds a predetermined value, a solenoid 1 is controllably excited to operate a plungger 2 and engaging mechanisms 3, 4 are engaged with the plunger 2 when the shift lever is swung in the N R direction to fix the shift lever 11, while releasing the shift lever 11 swingably when the shift lever 11 is swung in the N D direction. |
