METHOD OF IDENTIFYING CUT DIAMONDS

The invention concerns a method used for radiographically identifying diamonds, in particular for determining whether a completely cut diamond is identical to or different from a known completely cut diamond. To that end, the position of the table facet of the diamond relative to the diamond lattice is determined by means of two crystallographic polar angles and then at least one radiographical transmission recording of the internal defects of the diamond is realized by monochromatic X-radiation at the Bragg angle. The identity of the diamond can be checked by comparing the polar angles determined and the X-ray topograms with polar angles and X-ray topograms of known decorative diamonds obtained by the same procedure.
