The transfer device comprises a revolving bladed wheel (FR), the preferably fixed blades (F) of which form cells (Z) which receive piece goods (S) coming in on a first conveyor (FE1) and deliver them to revolving piece carriers (ST) of a second conveyor (FE2), the speed (v1) and spacing (t1) of the incoming piece goods (S), the circumferential speed (u) and circumferential spacing (t2) of the bladed wheel (FR) and the speed (v3) and spacing (t3) of the revolving piece-goods carrier being harmonized. The piece goods (S) can be moved directly into the cells (Z) of the bladed wheel (FR) because the blades (F) have a plurality of gaps arranged sequentially in the axial direction and segments of the first conveyor (FE1) are directed into the bladed wheel (FR) in the region of the gaps. The transfer of the piece goods (S) to the cells (Z) can thus be reliably controlled, as the invention dispenses with a delivery dependent on the shape and mass of the piece goods (S).
