PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the meandering amount of a metal strip travelling in conductive liquid. SOLUTION: Above the under the path line 11 of a metal strip 10 at both right and left sides in liquid 2 in a conductive liquid tank 1, pairs of electrodes 4a, 4b; 5a, 5b are arranged in right and left symmetry with the pass line 11, which are connected to the strip 10 via DC power supplies 6, 7, respectively. DC currents Iw, Id and the conductivity of the liquid are measured to find the meandering amountΔS of the strip from the following equation:ΔS= G.(Iw-Id+A), where G is a conversion constant between a current difference and a meandering amount and A is a zero point correcting constant.
