The invention is an electronic steering unit for automobiles providing improved steering stability at high speed and decreased steering effort at low speed. The reaction force control mechanism(6), which is encased in a control valve(1) that regulates the steering force depending on the car speed, consists of a wedge type piston(61), one end of which forms a tapered surface, and a spring(69) that compresses the other end of the wedge type piston(61). The wedge type piston(61) attached to valve body(62) with a wedge increases the force to the holding direction of the shaft so that linear steering force is provided by the resistance of the wedge(60) on steering. The invention provides improved steering.
