Long sequence number transmission method in message cell of smaller capacity

The transmission method performs transmission by using a Line Interface Card (LIC) to which message cells are supplied in e.g. asynchronous transfer mode. The destination information of each cell is applied to a Header Translation Table (HTT) which attaches routing information for forwarding to redundant Asynchronous Switching Networks (ASN0,ASN1). Two such networks are provided to sustain a predetermined cell loss probability of e.g. 10<-9>. Redundant Path Combination (RPC) selects and forwards only one cell from a group, recognising the next cell to be forwarded on the basis of its sequence number for each virtual link.
