PURPOSE:To attain the stereo sound transmission of a wide band by dividing a main channel signal into plural partial bands to produce a subchannel partial band residual signal from the signal of one of those divided partial bands and its corresponding subchannel partial band signal and transmitting plural main channel partial band signals and the residual signal. CONSTITUTION:The input signals are distributed to N channels and one of these channels is used as a main channel signal with other channels used as the subchannel signals respectively. The main channel signal is divided into plural partial bands via a partial band generating part 91 and sent to the reception side. An extracting part 99 extracts a signal of a partial band corresponding to a certain partial band of the main channel as a subchannel partial area signal. An estimating part 101 produces a subchannel partial band estimating signal based on the correlation between the extracted signal and the main channel partial band signal. Then a subchannel partial band residual signal is produced and sent to the reception side. At the reception side an estimating part 107 estimates a subchannel partial band signal from the main channel partial band signal and the subchannel partial band residual signal. Then a synthesizing part 109 synthesizes the subchannel partial band signal. At the same time, a synthesizing part 97 synthesizes the main channel partial band signal respectively. |
