A parallel light from a diffraction grating (4) is made incident on a right angled reflecting prism (5) which inturn branches the parallel light to light receivers (6,7). Each light receiver produces an electrical signal which is then transmitted to a signal processor (8) for processing the electrical signal received from each light receiver. The parallel light is obtained by converting the light from an input fiber (1) by a lens (2). The parallel light from the lens is then made incident on a diffracting grating (3) with which a spectrum is formed by the parallel light. The parallel light from the diffraction grating is then made incident on the other diffraction grating.
