MANUFACTURE OF METALLIC EXTRUDING STOCK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an inflow of the surface part of a metallic stock containing foreign matter into an extruding chamber by enlarging a gap between a groove and an abutment which are provided in the outer peripheral surface of a rotary wheel in a conforming extrusion machine in the opening part of the groove more than the same in the bottom part of the groove. SOLUTION: A gap between an abutment 29 and a groove 12 in an opening part side of the groove 12 is larger than the same in the bottom part of the groove 12. A metallic stock which is pushed into the groove 12 is filled in a stock guide path by a rotary wheel 11. When the metallic stock reaches a fixed shoe 21 and upsetting is progressed, the surface layer of the metallic stock containing oxide or the like is expanded in both sides of the opening part of the groove 12 and distributed. Since the gap in the opening part side of the groove 12 is large, the surface layer of the metallic stock is efficiently discharged. The metallic stock which is left in the outer peripheral surface 11a of the rotary wheel 11 is scraped off with a scraper. A satisfactory interval between the tip end of the scraper and the bottom part of the groove 12 is preferably kept in order to prevent contact between the scraper and the rotary wheel 11.
