PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic shredder with a scanning function in which, even when documents to be preserved are mixed in documents to be shredded, it is judged in the shredder, and documents to be preserved can be discriminated and recovered even after the shredding. SOLUTION: A shredder is equipped with an image scanner 3 which reads the image information of charged documents to be shredded and CPU 7 having functions to judge whether or not preset key words exist in the image information and to control the documents so that the documents are sent to a refuge tray 5 without being shredded when the key words exist in the image information and shredded automatically when the key words are absent.
