It is proposed to force air into a double-layer exhaust manifold (14) via the intermediate space (26). The air supplied (28) is thus heated. After-burning takes place in the exhaust manifold (14), preferably due to the exit of still burning petrol-air mixture from the exhaust valve aperture into the exhaust manifold (14). This improves the exhaust behaviour of the internal combustion engine and keeps any turbo-charger at a high revolution speed to prevent any turbo-gaps. It is possible at the same time to burn a rich mixture inside the cylinder (10) and set the stoichiometric balance of lambda = 1.0 only in the exhaust circuit. |
