High inner pressure moves the end face (20) of the die (18) from the tool surface (12) against the workpiece (10), within the die guide drilling (16). The die (18) is retracted by a length which equals the thickness (a) of the workpiece (10). The stamped plug is carried with the die against the punching direction and as the pressure drops, it is released and detached, for disposal under control.
