PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enhanced lighting system providing illumination to an essentially flat region in an electronic device. SOLUTION: This light source device has a semiconductor light source encapsulated near the end of an essentially flat light guide. Light radiated from the encapsulated semiconductor light source enters the light guide through the end. The encapsulated semiconductor light source comprises a semiconductor chip 301, sealed in a capsule sealing block 302, having a curved surface which faces the end of the flat light guide. The capsule sealing block 302 has a D- shaped cross section within a plane perpendicular to the plane of the essentially flat light guide, and the arcuate part of the D shape corresponds to the curved surface. The capsule sealing block extends by a predetermined distance in the extending direction, which is locally perpendicular with respect to the plane of the D-shaped cross section. |
