PURPOSE: A contour correction method and a contour correction circuit are to adjust the extent of contour compensation depending upon a detected quantity of motion when compensating contour. CONSTITUTION: A luminance signal inputted from an input terminal is inputted to the first delayer(210), the first adder(230), and an output unit(500). The first delayer delays the inputted luminance signal during T time to output the first luminance signal to the second delayer. a subtracter(250), and a vertical motion detecting unit(300). The second delayer delays the luminance signal delayed through the first delayer during T time to output a 2T time delayed luminance signal(222) to the first adder. The first adder adds the 2T time delayed luminance signal to the luminance signal inputted from the input terminal to output the result to a 1/2 amplifier(240). The 1/2 amplifier amplifies the added luminance signal inputted from the first adder by a half to output the result to the subtracter. The subtracter subtracts the 1/2 amplified luminance signal from the first luminance signal to output a contour correction signal(252).
