RECOMBINANT BACILLUS SUBTILIS AND ITS PREPARATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To delicately change a part of the chromosome of a bacterium or a cell and prepare a recombinant Bacillus subtilis capable of providing the gene group having many kinds of properties by including a mosaic recombinant DNA inserted into a genomic DNA and capable of imparting a desired phenotype. SOLUTION: This recombinant Bacillus subtilis contains a mosaic recombinant DNA containing a DNA inserted into the genomic DNA and capable of imparting a desired phenotype, e.g. insecticidal properties or drought, high- temperature or low-temperature resistance or a DNA capable of encoding an immunoglobulin gene or a heavy chain or a light chain of a variable region of the immunoglobulin. The recombinant Bacillus subtilis is obtained by selecting a recombinant Bacillus subtilis having a desired phenotype from a recombinant Bacillus subtilis containing a mosaic recombinant DNA prepared by simultaneously or successively substituting one or more heterologous DNAs inserted into the genomic DNA of the Bacillus subtilis with one or more DNA fragments which are double-stranded DNA fragments such as the genomic DNA by transformation.
