PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin handling device reducing the cost for detecting attachment/detachment of a change cassette and reducing the cost for measures for troubles caused by radio wave irradiation. SOLUTION: This coin handling device is provided with a proximity sensor 3 detecting the shortage of changes on the side of device body 2 and a metal piece 4 in the side of a changes cassette 1 facing to the proximity sensor 3 in installation of the changes cassette. When the proximity sensor 3 cannot detect a coin in the changes cassette 1 and the metal piece 4, a state determination means 5 determines that there is no changes cassette installed therein, when detecting the metal piece 4 alone, determines that the changes cassette is installed therein but not changes is left therein, when detecting the coins and the metal piece 4, determines that the changes cassette is installed therein and there are changes therein, and when the proximity sensor 3 outputs abnormality, determines that the sensor is abnormally worked and possibly it may be caused by the radio wave irradiation. The proximity sensor 3 can be served for detecting the attachment/detachment of the changes cassette and also detecting the trouble by the radio wave irradiation so as to reduce the cost.
