The present invention relates to the use of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA), chosen from the group consisting of caproic acid (C<SUB>6</SUB>), caprylic acid (C<SUB>8</SUB>) and capric acid (C<SUB>10</SUB>), salts, derivatives or mixtures thereof, in a total amount by weight comprised between 0.01% and 5% for inhibiting the growth of microbial pathogens.
