A scanning sonar displays a half-cut full-circle scan picture (51) obtained by full-circle scanning in a full-circle scan display area (50) as well as a half-cut half-circle scan picture (61) obtained by half-circle scanning in a half-circle scan display area (60), the full-circle and half-circle display areas being arranged on a single screen. When half-circle scan direction is altered by a rotation angle exceeding a threshold value, on-screen own ship position (62) is automatically offset to a specified position within the half-circle scan display area, and the half-circle scan picture rotated by the same rotation angle is represented. The offset own ship position lies on the circumference of a circle of radius R/2 inscribed in a semicircle boundary of the half-circle scan picture, where R is the radius of the half-circle scan picture. |
