1,153,519. Dimerization of olefins. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 6 April, 1967 [7 April, 1966], No. 15813/67. Heading C5E. Olefins are dimerized or co-dimerized by contact with a catalyst comprising (a) an organoaluminium compound having the formula AlR 2 X or AlRX 2 where R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical or an alkoxy group and X is halogen, and (b) a halide of a precious metal, e.g. Pt, Pd, Ir or Rh. Optionally the catalyst may also contain (c) a " binder ", e.g. sulphur or a phosphine, arsine or stibine. The process may be carried out in a solvent, e.g. an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon or an alkyl halide. Examples illustrate the dimerization of ropylene. |
