A ball-and-socket joint is sealed by a sealing boot 4 comprising an annular open-ended casing of elastomeric material secured at one end to the housing 1, the other end embracing the joint pin 2 and being formed with a sleeve 8 that surrounds the pin and projects inwardly of the casing to bear against the head 3 and thereby prevent the boot riding up the pin. A collar 4a on the boot engages a groove in the housing 1 and has a groove 4b in which a clamping ring (not shown) may be fitted. The other end of the boot is surrounded by a collar 5 and a groove 7, in which a spring ring (not shown) may be fitted, is formed between a flange 6 and the casing wall. The bore of the sleeve 8 is formed to provide a tapering clearance 8c between the sleeve and the pin. |
