[Also in Division F2] In a rectilinear-motion bearing, one of the relatively movable components is provided with insets of permeable material to which pressurized fluid is supplied. A carriage 2, Fig. 1, of a machine tool, is provided with a V-shaped guide 3, 4 and with a flat guide 5. The guides 3, 4 and 5 have recesses 6 therein, each of which receives a porous inset 14. A space 15 is provided between each inset and the base of each recess 6 to facilitate the distribution of the pressurized fluid. The insets, which may be made of bronze, may be retained in the recesses 6 by welding, adhering or by shrinking. The face of each insert which is directed towards the slide 1 is concave but is deformed flat when pressurized fluid is supplied. |
