Steroidal intermediates comprising rings A, B and D of the general formula: (I) where R1 = alkyl (not less than 2 C atoms when Q = -CH2CH2-) Q = -CH2- or -CH2CH2- X = 1-tetralylidene triple bond or subs. Intermediates in steroid synthesis. Add II (112g.) to III (80g.) in MeOH (275 cc.) containing KOH (0.3g.). Reflux for 6 hrs., conc. to a small volume and add Et2O (400 cc.) and PhH (400 cc.). Wash the organic layer with dil. NaOH and water, evaporate to a gum, recryst. from MeOH 13-ethyl-3-methoxy-8,14-secogona-1,3,5(10),9-tetraene-14,17-dione I(R1=Et; Q = -CH2-; X=6-MeO deriv.), mp.65-7 deg. |
