1,150,109. Continuous casting-machines. SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd. 28 Nov., 1967 [16 Dec., 1966], No. 54150/67. Heading B3F. A continuous casting mould comprises side walls as hollow beams 1 through which a coolant distributer pipe 3 passes, the pipe 3 having a number of outlet holes 11 grouped around the centre portion of the length of the beam 1, and the beam 1 having a uniform slot or row of holes (4) (Fig. 2, not shown) for passing the coolant from the interior of the beam 1 on to the side face of a rectangular cross-section slab being cast. The central grouping of the holes 11 ensures greater cooling at the centre of the sides of the slab than at the edges. The pipes 3 may be used to clamp end beams 2 to the side beams 1 by means of threaded ends and nuts 10, or they may be shorter than the length of the beams 1 and have coolant connections passing through the wall of the beams. The end beams 2 are also hollow and passages 12, adjustably restricted by screws 13, connect the interiors of the end and side beams. |
