A motor vehicle heating and ventilating unit comprises a fresh air inlet 15, a flap valve 21 for regulating the proportions of air flowing through a heater matrix 11 and a by-pass 24, a first outlet 18, a second outlet 19 and a distribution flap valve 25. The latter may be set to any of the following positions: a first position 31 in which it closes the outlet from the heater matrix so that by-pass air is supplied to both outlets; a second position 32 in which it co-operates with a fixed baffle 26 to direct air from the heater outlet into the by-pass 24, the mixed air being supplied to both outlets; a third position 33 in which it closes outlet 18 so that all the inlet air is supplied to outlet 19; and a fourth position 34 in which outlet 18 is in free communication with the heater outlet so that most of the air passing through the heater is supplied to outlet 18 and most of the by-pass air is supplied to outlet 19. The latter comprises two conduits, only one of which is shown, each communicating at its upper end with a fixed cylinder 36 having an aperture 39 in its wall. A rotatable cylinder 35 having an aperture 40 in its wall and inclined vanes 38 at its outlet end is mounted in cylinder 36. Rotation of cylinder 35 thus controls the direction in which the air is discharged into the vehicle and provides windscreen demisting when apertures 39, 40 are aligned to supply air to a nozzle 43 via an upwardly convergent passage defined by plates 41, 42. |
