A cathode-ray tube has an implosion protection arrangement in which layers of metallic ribbon are wrapped under mechanically induced tension only around the junction between the tube body and faceplate, and fixing devices for mounting the C.R.T. in a cabinet are disposed spaced on a previously wound layer and further layers of the metallic ribbon are wrapped over them to bind the firing devices to the C.R.T., and the ribbon is welded to form an implosion protection band having substantially the same tension as the ribbon during the wrapping process. A compensating layer between the junction and first strap layer and including slow- and quick-drying glues and described in Specification 1,231,625 may be used. |
