1336585 Disposable diapers PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 7 Dec 1970 58085/70 Heading A3V [Also in Division A5] A disposable diaper of substantially rectangular shape is provided with a pair of fan folds which in the rear half 29 of the diaper each comprise an embossed arcuate infold 23, 24 and an embossed arcuate outfold 27, 28, the fan folds allowing the diaper to be stored flat and facilitating fitting on an infant. In the embodiment shown each arcuate fold merges across the transverse centre line 25 into a straight fold parallel to the diaper side edges 18 and 19 and extending to the diaper front edge 16. In a second embodiment the folds in the front half 30 are arcuate and symmetrical with the folds in the rear half 29 about the line 25. In a third embodiment the folds in the front half are rectilinear and diverge to the adjacent side edges. In a fourth embodiment the outfolds 27, 28 merge into arcuate outfolds symetrical about the line 25 while each infold 23, 24 branches into an infold extending parallel to the side edges and terminating at the front edge 16 and a second straight infold diverging to the adjacent side edge. The diaper comprises a top sheet 22 (worn next the skin) of hydrophobic paper or non-woven fabric, an absorbent intermediate layer 21 consisting of multiple layers of different materials, e.g. tissue paper, wadding, airfelt materials and cellulosic fluff, and a bottom layer 20 of paper, non- woven fabric or plastics film, the layers being secured together by adhesive. |
