PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To finish a multilayered web at a low cost and to diminish rejects due to chips by imparting surface electric conductivity to a cutting material without considerably deteriorating the mechanical characteristics. SOLUTION: A mixture of a zirconia alloy with zirconium diboride is compressed to form a block and this block is sintered at 1,200-1,600 deg.C in an atmosphere of a gaseous mixture of 3-5mol% hydrogen with 97-95mol% nitrogen to produce the objective ceramic article with a core part contg. sintered zirconium oxide alloy grains and a shell part practically contg. sintered ZrN grains.
