Mercury recovery still - with water scrubber and tank condenser

Hg is distilled off by dry distn. from the material in a vessel with a gas tight lid possibly assisted by an inert gas. The furnace gas is passed into a condenser water scrubbing tower, from where the condensed Hg sinks to the bottom of an inclined floor totally enclosed water tank. In the prefd. design the water is continually circulated and part of it cooled in a second scrubbing tower with an indirect heat exchanger. The plant does not cause any health hazards and achieved 100% recovery of the distilled Hg.
