The noise damper for cooling air opening is engine compartments directs the emerging air over deflecting plates. The noise damper is compact and has low flow resistance and it can be readily adapted to a given engine. The deflecting wall (18) which determines air flow at outlet is arranged downstream of the guiding plate which is permeable to noise. This guiding plate has a number of profiled blades (15) for guiding air flow and for ensuring transparency to noise. These blades can be enveloped into a fabric or they may be made from foam plastics. The blades can also act as engine cooling ribs.
