<p>A vessel for collecting oil and other material floating on water includes spaced parallel pontoons between which is mounted a forward skimmer for directing the polluted surface water onto a horizontal plate arranged to distribute the polluted water onto the horizontal forward section of an endless conveyor which captures the pollutants while allowing the water to drain into a tank for discharge overboard. The rearward section of the conveyor is inclined to permit the pollutants to be discharged into a receiver at the stern of the vessel. In use, the presence of a bow wave has no detrimental effects but, on the contrary, enhances the operation of the vessel.</p> |
