1486060 Recovering oils AMCHEM PRODUCTS Inc 27 June 1975 [27 June 1974] 27243/75 Heading C5E Oil-in-water emulsion adhering to the surface of articles is removed by contacting with an agitated aqueous demulsifier solution and the aqueous mixture of oil, unbroken emulsion and demulsifier is allowed to settle and form a separate phase of liberated oil which is then separated off. Articles, such as aluminium, tinplate or steelplate cans, on a conveyer 8, are sprayed with an aqueous demulsifier solution from nozzles 18. The demulsifier solution is suitably an aqueous solution of 0À5-5 wt. per cent of a sulphate or bisulphate of ammonia or an alkali metal or a phosphate or chloride of an alkali metal. The mixture is collected in a first tank 10, from which it is transferred by overflow to a settling tank 28. Liberated oil is removed from the tank 28 by an endless belt skimmer 30. The aqueous phase W<SP>1</SP> containing demulsifier is recycled through the pipe 34 to the tank 10, from which it is recycled through the pipe 14 to the nozzles 18. The articles can be rinsed with water from a nozzle 19. |
