1509998 Azomethine pigments SANDOZ Ltd 2 June 1975 [5 June 1974] 23824/75 Heading C4P The invention comprises bisazomethine pigments having the general formula wherein R, is alkyl, R 2 is alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, or -CONR 6 R 7 , R 3 is H or alkyl, R 4 is an aromatic carbo- or hetero-cyclic bivalent radical bound through ortho or peri positions, R 5 completes an aromatic carbo- or hetero-cyclic ring, R 6 is H or alkyl, R 7 is H, alkyl or a mono- or bi-nuclear aromatic carbo- or hetero-cyclic ring and Me is bivalent nickel, copper, zinc or cobalt. The invention further comprises the unmetallized bisazomethine compounds. They are prepared by (1) condensing a diamine of general formula H 2 N-R 4 -NH 2 with an ortho-hydroxyaldehyde of the general formula and with a compound of the general formula or by (ii) condensing an ortho-hydroxy-aldehyde of the third general formula above with a compound of general formula in which formula R 1 -R 5 are as above and R 8 is H or alkyl. The metallized pigments are prepared by metallizing the corresponding prepared bisazomethine or by preparing the bisazomethine in the presence of a bivalent, nickel, copper, zinc or cobalt salt. The pigments are used for mass colouring polyethylene, polystyrene, p.v.c. and synthetic leathers, paints, varnishes, rubber, for spin dyeing viscose and cellulose acetate, for mass dyeing paper and coating textiles. |
