The current rails (5,6) are arranged in a rail cannon configuration so that the combustion zone (9), like a plasma armature, is pressed against the burning end surface (11) of the charge by the occurring Lorentz forces. The accompanying drive charge (4) consists of a compact drive medium body, and is ignited electrically in a specifically selected position in the barrel (1) by means of current supply through the current rails (5,6). The current feed through the combustion zone (9) of the accompanying drive charge (4) is brought into action in a specifically selected position in the barrel (1). An installation for pulsed power is used as current source (12). The current fed to the current rails is varied during combustion.
